Tokai – an introduction

For those searching for property for sale in the southern suburbs of Cape Town, Tokai represents excellent value. The range of property is significant with a selection that varies from small apartments through to 20 million rand luxury homes as well as some of Cape Town’s most sought-after security estates.

Tokai is conveniently located at the centre of the Cape Peninsula, only 25 minutes from the centre of town and the Cape Town International Airport. Situated at the foothills of the Constantiaberg Mountains, with the natural boundaries of the Tokai forests, and the Uitsig Wine Farms, the Tokai area has much to offer residents with its natural beauty, whilst offering not only a retreat from the hustle of town life, but the easy access many seek.

Tokai offers an excellent option for your next property purchase, it combines country life with city accessibility, a host of attractions within minutes of your home and in general a slightly cheaper option than that of Constantia but with many of the benefits.

Tokai can also boast of excellent amenities close at hand with convenient proximity to beaches, the mountain, forests as well as excellent shopping, an exclusive wellness centre, numerous excellent restaurants and entertainment facilities.

Most famous for its wonderful forest which was planted by Simon van der Stel in 1694, the forest was originally filled with oaks whereas today it is a pine plantation housing numerous activities such as mountain bike routes, hiking trails, dog walks and is a popular weekend braai venue.

In some respects Tokai is the ‘bridging’ location between southern suburb areas such as Bergvliet and Constantia. Constantia could be described ‘as Tokai’s illustrious neighbour’, but as the years and developments have rolled by, it is almost a seamless transition from Constantia to Tokai and the house prices and developments in Tokai now warrant much of the prestige awarded to Constantia.

Homes here are large and set in beautifully established gardens and tree-lined avenues. There’s a welcoming and family vibe here, which could have something to do with the fact that the suburb’s other boundaries are the Constantiaberg and the vineyards of Uitsig, which form part of the Constantia Wine Route.

Tokai offers 2 wonderful golf-courses within its borders,  Steenberg and Westlake,  as well as the oldest wine farm in the Cape Peninsula, the Steenberg Estate.

From Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens to Tokai Forest, the whole valley is criss-crossed by a well-developed network of green belts, large open spaces and parkland.

Tokai offers an excellent option for your next property purchase, it combines country life with city accessibility, a host of attractions within minutes of your home and in general a  slightly cheaper option than that of Constantia but with many of the benefits.
